Houston, Texas – This is more than a Housewife book—and more than a book about cancer. That was the message Real Housewives of Miami fan favorite Guerdy Abraira shared during her Houston Life appearance, where she spoke about her new book, From Trauma to Trophies, and the journey that inspired it.
Guerdy explained that the book reflects a lifetime of experiences, beginning with her early years moving from Haiti to Paris and eventually to the United States. She described how navigating different cultures, identities, and expectations helped shape her resilience long before she ever stepped into the public eye.
FULL DISCLOSURE: Guerdy is not your typical “housewife”. She was a collegiate athlete with a degree in Communications from St. Thomas University. Ever the hustler, Abraira founded her own high-end event firm and she’s been recognized by Harper’s Bazaar as a top global, luxury-planner. Vogue also dubbed her as one of the Best Wedding Planners across the U.S. and beyond. She married her high school sweetheart, Russell, and is the mother of two boys, Miles and Liam.
During the conversation, Guerdy emphasized that life brings many forms of trauma, not all of them visible and that Trauma to Trophies is about how people choose to show up through those moments. She shared that the idea of becoming a “trophy girl” isn’t about perfection or accolades, but about survival, growth, and self-worth. Perhaps it is something she learned slugging it out with stage 1B estrogen-positive breast cancer in March 2023. Not only did the fight of her life involve chemo, radiation, and ultimately a hysterectomy, but it was something she defeated publicly, with an audience watching (and likely judging) intensely.
Guerdy also opened up about what it feels like to finally have the book out in the world. She said the response so far has been emotional and encouraging, with readers reaching out to say they see themselves in her story.
For Guerdy, that connection has been one of the most rewarding parts of sharing such a personal project.Looking ahead, she hinted that 2026 will be a big year, with new opportunities and projects on the horizon as she continues to build on this next chapter beyond reality television.
The conversation turned extra personal when Guerdy spoke about her son Liam, who is beginning his own journey in the spotlight. She shared how proud she is watching her 12-year-old son—already 6’2”—step into modeling and own it. Guerdy described the experience as both exciting and emotional, saying it’s a reminder of how quickly life’s chapters can change. From discussing resilience to celebrating new beginnings, Guerdy’s appearance offered a glimpse into a woman embracing growth, purpose, and what comes next.
