HOUSTON – It’s a holiday classic for many families: Irving Berlin’s ‘White Christmas.’ Through December 24th, you can catch it on stage at Theatre Under the Stars at Hobby Center in downtown Houston.
Houston-based actress Courtney Markowitz, who has performed on Broadway, toured nationally and has appeared in dozens of productions throughout Houston, felt an instant connection with her co-star, Karli Dinardo, who also has a long list of stage credits, TV and film.
“She’s very easy to love,” said Markowitz of her stage sister, who traveled from New York City to play the role.
Dinardo, who you might recognize from Broadway hits like Hamilton and Moulin Rouge! The Musical, agreed their connection was instant.
“First day, we hit it off right away,” Dinardo added, describing Courtney as her real-life ‘big sister’ who even offered to take her to buy groceries so she could get settled in Houston.
Together, they star as sisters Betty and Judy Haynes in the holiday story that is a beloved tradition for so many families. Inspired by the 1954 film, “White Christmas” features 17 songs by American Composer and Songwriter Irving Berlin and is a perfect family show full of heartfelt nostalgia and high-energy numbers like “Blue Skies,” “I Love a Piano,” and, of course, “White Christmas.” There’s even some special magic during the finale as snow falls on the audience.
