HOUSTON – After a series of bad choices landed her in prison for wire fraud, Houston woman Darla Beede thought she had no future. While she was behind bars, her husband of 30 years divorced her and she worried what would happen when her sentence ended. Often, people with barriers to employment like a criminal record discover many employers are unwilling to hire them.
After serving a two year sentence, Darla was released from prison. That’s when she heard about the job training programs at Goodwill Houston. There she was able to get help working on her resumé, get a job and start building a future she didn’t think she’d ever see.
Today, Darla is the Senior Manager of one of Goodwill’s career centers and re-entry programs. She has not only gotten back on her feet, she’s found her purpose. She’s also inspiring others along the way -- and she’s in a new personal relationship as well.
