Post It Love aims to brighten a student’s day, one note at a time

Houston – In a time when social media and digital communication are how many people operate, one nonprofit organization is embracing the power of handwritten notes to spread kindness and encouragement to students.

Post-it Love, founded by mother-daughter duo Jelita and Kelsey Bridgeforth are on a mission to brighten the days of students in need through small yet impactful gestures. Post It Love unoffcially began when Jelita was raising her children. She would leave thoughtful messages in their lunchboxes with various sayings like “I believe in you, so be a Rockstar today! Love, Mom.” Her kids would come home, excited to tell stories about their day, and in those stories, the lunch notes that seemed insignificant, actually held a power that brightened their day and reminded them they were loved.

Years later, the duo noticed a girl in the car rider line at school. Jelita says she looked sad all the time. In response, Kelsey suggested that Jelita write her one of her notes to lift her spirits. Post It Love was soon established.

The concept is straightforward, volunteers from come together to write heartfelt messages on colorful index cards, or Post-it notes. The notes are then distributed to classrooms in different schools. Right now, the Bridgefords are working with Horn Elementary in Alief ISD. They’re hoping to branch out to five other schools by the beginning of next school year, but they’re going to need a lot of help. It takes one thousand notes to serve one classroom for an entire school year. It can take at least 36,000 notes to serve an entire school for one year. It may sound like a difficult task, but for many students, receiving a note of encouragement can make a world of difference.

With each note delivered, they are not only offering words of encouragement but also reminding students that they are supported and valued.

Through their Post It Love’s Love Drives, the community is encouraged to donate supplies to help volunteers create uplifting notes. Notes and donations can be mailed to 550 Spring Green Blvd STE 408-338 Katy, TX 77494 or dropped off at their mailbox.
