This weekend’s Katy Taste Fest brings 40 of the best restaurants together in one place

HOUSTON – If you love food samples, imagine being able to try unlimited bites from 40 popular restaurants in our area. That’s exactly what you can experience at this weekend’s Katy Taste Fest.

One of the must-try booths will be from Anthonie’s Market Grill, based in Simonton. The restaurant is known not only for its incredible food, wine and cocktails, but also features beautiful outdoor patio and LIVE music. Chef Anthonie Dekker, originally from Holland, has built such a following in Texas he caters for many suites at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and for large organizations like the Texans. He has also fed celebrities like Hakeem Olajuwon and George Strait, and he even catered President George H. W. Bush’s 80th birthday celebration.

Chef Anthonie joked with Houston Life that he began cooking at a very young age, by default. “As a young boy I started cooking, my dad worked in restaurants, my brothers started cooking, so I had no choice. They just pulled me into the kitchen,” said the chef, whose restaurant in Simonton has become a go-to for special occasions and favorite among locals.

Now in its 6th year, Katy Taste Fest began as a way to not only showcase the diverse food scene in Katy, but also as a way to give back. “We wanted to created awareness for local non-profits and so we did that by bringing together restaurants and celebrating local cuisines,” said Cyril Thomas, one of the event’s organizers. This year’s Fest will support the work of nearly two dozen local organizations committed to bettering the community.

Katy Taste Fest is happening Saturday, March 2nd from 12pm to 3pm at Typhoon Texas. Use code “HOUSTONLIFE” to get 10% off your tickets.
