HOUSTON – Jon Pierre and Mary Tjon-Joe-Pin left their day jobs and started a home renovation business.
Fortunately, their work flipping houses right here in Houston got the attention of HGTV.
“We did have solid jobs that we really liked. Just by deciding I wanted more, we stepped out on faith and belief in ourselves and said, ‘Hey, what we see in HGTV, we can actually do.’ It was kind of a blind leap of faith. And it’s scary. It’s still scary but we are here now and we’re happy to have made the jump,’” said Jon Pierre, who said goodbye to his job in the Houston oil and gas industry and became a licensed realtor and home investor.
His wife Mary is a former flight attendant, who turned full-time designer to help in the couple’s home investment company, Harper Raine Homes.
The couple takes care of all aspects potential home buyers need, from buying to design consulting.
“We wear a lot of hats. We do all the things. We do the work. We find the houses, renovate them, stage them, and list them for sale,” said Mary.
The Tjon-Joe-Pins created customized renovations for outdated homes and showed a knack for knowing what appeals to busy families moving to Houston.
Their talent, combined with social media, led them to land a show on the popular cable channel.
“It wasn’t by plan or by design. We were trying to figure out how to have fun while we were going through all these stressful moments while flipping a house and that’s how the journey began to HGTV. We are extremely fortunate. Whenever you make a leap into doing something that you believe in, it’s amazing how many cool things can happen whenever you find your niche, or your purpose and you work hard at it, said Jon Pierre.
Going for Sold premiered in 2019 and documented how the couple dealt with the realities of the real estate market in our city.
Now the power couple is getting ready to launch their second show on HGTV.
