New research finds more health benefits in broccoli

It might be maligned by children, but broccoli is one of the healthiest vegetables out there and now it’s getting even healthier.

Scientists from the University of Illinois have identified genes that control the amount of phenolic compounds in broccoli, which are associated with a lower risk of heart disease, asthma and several cancers.

By combining strains of broccoli, researchers believe that they can create a “super broccoli” with greatly improved health benefits.
