Audience Engagement Specialist

KPRC 2 is looking for an Audience Engagement Specialist to help the station better understand and respond to the communities we serve.

Audience expectations around local media have changed. People don’t just watch the news anymore — they react to it, share it, question it, and expect interaction across platforms in real time.

The Audience Engagement Specialist monitors audience conversations, identifies meaningful trends and concerns, and helps ensure audience feedback informs content and engagement decisions.

Working closely with newsroom leadership, marketing, and Houston Life, this role helps strengthen how KPRC 2 connects with audiences across social, streaming, digital, and community platforms.

Success in this role requires strong communication instincts, sound news judgment, curiosity about audience behavior, and the ability to recognize what matters to people beyond metrics and comment counts.

Key Responsibilities:

Audience Engagement & Community Connection

  • Monitor and engage with audience conversation across social platforms, streaming platforms, apps, and digital products
  • Help strengthen how KPRC 2 responds to viewers, users, and community feedback across platforms
  • Identify recurring audience questions, frustrations, concerns, and interests that can inform editorial and content decisions
  • Surface emerging community conversations and trends that may impact coverage, engagement, or audience trust
  • Help create feedback loops between audiences and internal teams, so audience insight becomes actionable
  • Support audience participation opportunities tied to station initiatives, reporting, investigations, and community-focused projects

Platform & Content Support

  • Help identify opportunities for engagement-first content across social, streaming, and digital platforms
  • Collaborate with newsroom, Houston Life, and Audience Growth teams to help shape platform-native audience interaction strategies
  • Assist with publishing, audience response, and engagement workflows tied to major station initiatives or breaking news coverage
  • Help develop approaches that strengthen loyalty, participation, and repeat engagement across platforms
  • Track engagement performance and audience behavior trends to help improve content strategy

Community & Event Engagement

  • Support audience-facing station events, activations, and community initiatives as needed
  • Assist with gathering audience feedback and insights during in-person engagements
  • Help strengthen relationships between the station and local communities through meaningful interaction and responsiveness

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, media studies, or related field — or equivalent experience
  • Experience in audience engagement, social media, community management, digital content, journalism, or related media roles
  • Strong understanding of audience behavior across social, digital, and streaming platforms, with the ability to identify meaningful insights and trends
  • Strong communication instincts and ability to engage audiences in a professional, conversational, and trustworthy way
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple conversations and workflows simultaneously
  • Comfortable working in fast-moving news and content environments
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across the newsroom, marketing, and content teams
  • Experience with social publishing, analytics, and audience engagement platforms preferred
  • Interest in local news, community issues, and audience behavior trends strongly preferred
