Galena Park officials respond to flooding at entrance of Galena Manor subdivision after overnight rain

Flooding is a recurring issue caused by drainage problems

City officials responded to flooding Tuesday night at the entrance to the Galena Manor subdivision, where standing water blocked part of the area following heavy rainfall.

The flooding was reported around 10 p.m. near Clinton Drive at the entrance to the neighborhood. It came after downpours throughout the Houston area Tuesday night.

According to city officials, the flooding is a recurring issue caused by drainage problems. The city has plans to address the drainage concerns, but in the meantime, crews worked Tuesday night to pump out the water.

Galena Park Mayor Oscar Mireles, the city’s police chief, fire chief and public works crews all responded to the scene to help manage the flooding.

Officials said the water did not reach any homes, and no evacuations were necessary.

City officials also reported flooding along Panther Creek, where crews were dispatched to monitor conditions and respond as needed. By the time KPRC 2 arrived, there were no visible signs of flooding or emergency crews at the creek.

The City of Galena Park continues to monitor drainage issues in the area as it works toward long-term improvements.
