The depression formed Wednesday morning to the east of Nicaragua and was named a tropical storm around 7 a.m. Thursday.

Long-range models project a possible landfall along along the Gulf Coast anywhere from central Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle Sunday morning as a Category 1 hurricane.

Current forecast models keep the storm to the east of Texas because of an expected cold front moving into the Houston region early next week.

As always, the storm bears watching until it is certain not to be a threat.

This is a reminder that there are almost two months left in hurricane season, and everyone needs to stay prepared.
