There’s some exciting news for I-45 Gulf Freeway and just in time for Mardi Gras Galveston! The construction on I-45 from SH-96 to FM-517 in Galveston County is nearly complete. The Gulf Freeway in this area is now open to four lanes in each direction. That’s a lot of added capacity for your commute and weekend activities for Mardi Gras!

Galveston Mardi Gras Parade

Mardi Gras season in Galveston is finally here. Thousands of people will be flocking to the island, so prepare for extra traffic and delays. The island’s 112th Mardi Gras celebration continues until Feb. 21, or Fat Tuesday. Weekends will be packed with parades, parties and, of course, beads. Expect closures on 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 25th Streets between Harborside and Strand and Strand and Mechanic, will close to allow for event staging and load-in.

Biking to the rodeo?

Last week, I told you about a new bike lane created along Almeda Road that leads cyclists to Holly Hall and straight NRG for all the rodeo fun. Today, I can confirm, there will be bike parking at NRG for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, but it’s not yet clear if it will be staffed. This is according to BikeHouston.

Neighborhood Alert: District D
