For many children in Houston’s most medically underserved neighborhoods, simply getting to a doctor can be long, costly—or impossible. But a growing effort is changing that by delivering high-quality health care directly to students where they already are—on their school campuses.

Spring Branch Independent School District has started Phase 3 in reductions to help close the district’s $35 million general fund budget gap for the 2024-2025 school year.

HOUSTON YES Prep Public Schools announced Thursday it will provide eligible students with free or reduced-price meals for the 2020-21 school year. YES Prep will determine a students eligibility for meal benefits based on the following criteria:IncomeHousehold income that is at or below the income eligibility levels. Categorical or automatic eligibilityHousehold receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF); or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR). School officials say YES Prep is working with local agencies to identify all children who are categorically and program eligible. If a familys financial circumstances change during the year, YES Prep advises the household to contact the school for assistance.

YES Prep students are looking forward to the 2020-2021 school year. He said buses will follow strict cleaning procedures and social distancing and that the schools need feedback from parents in a survey. A spokesperson for YES Prep said the charter school district is finalizing plans for the 2020-2021 school year and will release more information in late July or early August.
