Old Navy will shift back to brand-building in a growing trend among advertisers
It seems to be a trend, as Gap joins several other companies lamenting that they've neglected brand marketing in favor of discounts or performance-driven ads. Gap said this week it has made the mistake of advertising its discounts at the expense of building brand loyalty for Old Navy. Other brands have had "we've been slacking on brand marketing" realizations in recent months. The decreasing ROI on performance marketing, primarily Google, was a driver for that.cnbc.com

TripAdvisor defends itself against fake reviews claim
- TripAdvisor has defended itself against accusations of misleading travelers by failing to stop some of its highest ranked hotels winning their status with fake reviews. It found that one in seven of the hotels had "blatant hallmarks" of fake reviews, with others raising "serious concerns." It says that five-star reviews left by new users who have written no other reviews should be a red flag. Its analysis compared the proportion of first-time five-star reviews with that of first-time three-star reviews, which are less likely to be faked. Travel did not have access to IP [internet protocol] information or location data, both of which TripAdvisor uses to detect fake reviews.
