Sara Bareilles to star in Peacock comedy about a girl group
NEW YORK Sara Bareilles will be acting against type in her next role: She'll be playing a washed-up musician. The NBCUniversal streaming platform Peacock said Monday the Grammy-winning artist and Broadway songwriter Bareilles will star in Girls5eva, co-produced by Tina Fey. The comedy is about a one-hit-wonder girl group called Girls5eva from the 1990s whose members reunite to give their pop star dreams one more shot. Recently, she served as executive producer for Little Voice, a 10-episode series, for which she created the original music. Fey will be an executive producer.

In ET's exclusive sneak peek from the series, Bess is parked by the arch in Greenwich Village's Washington Square Park when she begins to strum the opening chords of Amy Winehouse's "Valerie" as she busks for passersby. Bess returns to her guitar, strumming the opening chords again to "Valerie" and starting to sing the Winehouse song. Little Voice premieres Friday, July 10 on Apple TV+ with the first three episodes, before dropping new episodes weekly. Sara Bareilles Debuts 'Little Voice' Theme Song in First Apple TV Plus Teaser
Sara Bareilles is bringing her musical talents to Apple TV+'s upcoming musical drama, Little Voice. On Friday, Apple TV+ dropped the first teaser for Little Voice, accompanied by the titular theme song written and performed by Bareilles, who is a GRAMMY winner and Tony and Emmy nominee. "Little Voice," Bareilles revealed on Twitter, was a song she wrote when she was in her mid-20s, and only now will it finally see the light of day. I wrote LITTLE VOICE when I was 24 years old and it has been sitting as a demo ever since. Little Voice drops Friday, July 10 on Apple TV+.

The 2018 Tony Awards are in the books. Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban hosted the 72nd annual awards show from Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, for the first time. The two joked that the key to hosting the Tonys was never winning any awards. And Bareilles upheld her losing streak at the Tonys after being nominated for a song she wrote for "SpongeBob SquarePants." "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts 1 and 2" won six awards, including best play and best director.
