Mets' Smith follows plea with HR; Rosario gets road walkoff
Back in his comfort zone Friday night, the New York Mets outfielder took a starring role in a Subway Series instant classic. We all were extremely happy to just be back on the field and be back playing baseball, Smith said. Healthy ace Scherzer pitches Nats past Mets 2-1 for 1st win
Washington Nationals' Max Scherzer (31) delivers a pitch during the first inning of a baseball game against the New York Mets Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020, in New York. But he also looked healthy all the while a wonderful sign for the Washington Nationals. Scherzer showed no effects of hamstring trouble, navigating heavy traffic early for his first win this season, and Trea Turner hit a record-breaking leadoff homer to help Washington beat the New York Mets 2-1 on Tuesday night. Scherzer lasted six innings and threw only 45 pitches over his final four to finish with 105. The Mets hadn't announced a starter to replace Michael Wacha, who went on the injured list Sunday with shoulder inflammation.
The Astros Owe Houston An Apology, Just Not For The Reasons You Think
Not for sign stealing, especially because I suspect a lot of these holier-than-thou opposing teams are going to be tugging their collars when MLB's final report comes out. Nevertheless, in 2017, Manfred warned all MLB teams not to engage in "electronic sign stealing" or face the consequences. It's as idiotic as being caught filming an opposing team's sidelines from yet *another* team's press box. That is, until he started the hashtag #cancelhouston and encouraged his Twitter followers to suggest punishments for the cheating Astros. Seeing our baseball team win its first championship barely eight weeks after we were nearly washed into the Gulf was an incredible feeling.

abc13.comAstros Trade Marisnick, Make Room for Tucker
The Astros on Thursday traded veteran outfielder Jake Marisnick to the Mets for a pair of prospects. The move was made to clear room in an already crowded outfield for youngsters Kyle Tucker and Myles Straw, who should make the big league roster in 2020. Ideally, the Astros would like to move Josh Reddick, but his $14 million contract makes that difficult without the Astros agreeing to absorb some of that salary, so Marisnick was dealt. The Mets are hoping Marisnick will perform better at the plate if he is given more opportunities. For the Astros, it reduces their glut of outfielders and adds a couple of prospects to their already deep minor league roster.
