The Harris County Sheriff’s Office says an 81-year-old in custody at the Harris County Jail died after suffering a medical emergency.

Houston police are investigating the death of an inmate who died at Ben Taub Hospital last week.

Skyler Ray Chapman was indicted Tuesday on a charge of criminally negligent homicide in connection to the Sept. 2024 death of Saul Vargas.

A Harris County inmate died in custody on Sunday after having complications from a terminal medical condition, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

A man who died Tuesday after being rushed by ambulance to the hospital from the Harris County Jail, will not be labeled an “in-custody death” because the man was technically released from the jail before he died.
