HOUSTON – The first day of the 2024 March Madness basketball tournament is in the books, and most of our brackets are already busted!

Even so, there’s still a lot to be excited about for Texans looking for a local team to root for. The tournament pool features six Texas colleges, the highest representation of any state.

Here’s some information about each of the Texas teams.

Texas Longhorns

The Longhorns were the first Texas team to suit up in the tournament, and they had as good of a start as you could ask for. The 7-seed Horns gave up just 11 points in the first half against 10-seed Colorado State, and they comfortably held on to advance with a 56-44 victory.

Texas Tech Red Raiders

Texas Tech was the first Texas team to be eliminated, as the 6-seed Red Raiders were sent home by 11-seed N.C. State. Despite trailing by just four points at halftime, the Wolfpack used an 11-2 scoring run in the second half to cruise to an 80-67 victory.

Baylor Bears

The 3-seed Bears started the tournament against 14-seed Colgate and hardly broke a sweat. They jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, moving on with a 92-67 victory.

Texas A&M Aggies

The Aggies will enter the tournament as a 9 seed, taking on 8-seed Nebraska at 5:50 p.m. CST on TNT. The winner of that matchup will face the winner of Houston/Longwood.

Houston Cougars

The top-seed Cougars are one of the national favorites to make a deep tournament run, and their journey starts against 16-seed Longwood at 8:20 p.m. CST on TNT.

TCU Horned Frogs

The 9-seed Horned Frogs will round out the first round for the Lone Star State, as they’ll take on 8-seed Utah State at 8:55 p.m. CST on TBS.
