When the details of the Houston Rockets’ trade for Kevin Durant became official, fans were speculating what jersey number KD would don in the red and white.
Would he wear the iconic No. 35 that he sported with the Texas Longhorns, Seattle Supersonics/Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns, or would he go back to the No. 7 he wore with the Brooklyn Nets?

Initially, fans assumed that he would wear No. 35, because third-year forward Cam Whitmore already had No. 7. However, after Whitmore was traded to the Washington Wizards Sunday, the number became available.
Shortly after news of the Whitmore trade broke, Rich Kleinman, Durant’s agent, insinuated that Durant would adopt his number, posting images of KD wearing No. 7 on his Instagram story.
Several hours later, NBA jersey number tracker Etienne Catalan confirmed the report.

When Durant first changed his number
to 7 back in 2020, he said he did so because “all of his favorite superstars” rocked two different jersey numbers. He listed Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Michael Jordan and Carmelo Anthony.
