Texans bring back former University of Texas corner

HOUSTON – The Texans are re-signing cornerback Kris Boyd to a one-year contract, per a league source.

A former University of Texas player, Boyd was promoted to the active roster from the practice squad in December.

Boyd is a former Minnesota Vikings seventh-round draft pick who has recorded 97 tackles, two forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and three pass deflections.

Boyd, a 5-foot-11, 200-pound native of Gilmer, has also played for the Arizona Cardinals.

He played four games last season for Arizona before joining the Texans. He played in two games for the Texans last season.

Boyd is a former All-Big 12 selection and Senior Bowl participant.

Boyd, 27, worked out for the Texans along with former Purdue running back Zander Horvath and former Washington State wide receiver Dezmon Patton before being signed to the practice squad.
