Texans’ Laremy Tunsil makes Pro Bowl again; six players named as alternates

HOUSTONTexans veteran left offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil was named to the Pro Bowl for the fourth time.

A team captain, Tunsil was voted in as a starter in balloting split between fans, players and coaches.

Tunsil is the third-ranked pass protector in the NFL among tackles with an 84.8 mark, according to Pro Football Focus. He has allowed just 12 hurries this season, tying him for the second fewest in the NFL and the least in the AFC.

Tunsil is the highest paid offensive lineman in the NFL and one of the highest rated pass protectors.

Tunsil achieved his goal again this offseason of being the highest paid left tackle in the game as he reset the tackle market again with a three-year, $75 million extension. The deal includes $50 million fully guaranteed, $60 million total guaranteed, and a $30 million signing bonus.

Tunsil has played through a great deal of pain this season, managing a knee injury all year that has been drained a few times this season. Tunsil returned to practice this week from a groin injury and is set to play Saturday night in a pivotal game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud was named a Pro Bowl alternate in his first NFL season, despite being the top passer from the 2023 rookie class.

A two-time Heisman Trophy finalist and second overall pick from Ohio State, Stroud is regarded as the frontrunner for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. He has passed for 21 touchdowns and just five interceptions.

The Texans rank fourth in the NFL with 269.6 passing yards per game with Stroud delivering spirals and Tunsil protecting his blindside.

Texans cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. was named a 2024 Pro Bowl first alternate. He leads the Texans with a career-high five interceptions, establishing himself as one of the top cover guys in the NFL since returning from injured reserve from a strained hamstring.

Texans rookie defensive end Will Anderson Jr. is a first Pro Bowl alternate. He has set a franchise rookie record with seven sacks.

Texans defensive end Jonathan Greenard was named a fifth Pro Bowl alternate. He has recorded a career-high 12 1/2 sacks.

Texans wide receiver Nico Collins is a fourth alternate. He is the fourth player in franchise history to have 1,100 receiving yards in a single season.

Texans fullback Andrew Beck, who has a kickoff return for a touchdown, was named a second alternate.

The Pro Bowl games includes a skills challenge and flag football game from Feb. 1 to Feb. 4 in Orlando, Fla.
