HOUSTON – Growing up in Alabama, Tytus Howard never attended an NFL game before he was an actual NFL rookie as the Texans’ first-round draft pick.

“I’m from Alabama,” Howard said. “I always wanted to go to an Atlanta Falcons game growing up, but I was never able to.”

Now, the veteran offensive tackle is hosting youth from the Houston Texans YMCA at games at NRG Stadium as part of the team’s Community Huddle program. The Texans are hosting people from nonprofit organizations who might not otherwise have a chance to attend an NFL game. The organizations and sponsors include Howard, defensive tackle Maliek Collins (CoolxDad), wide receiver Brandin Cooks (Star of Hope), defensive end Jerry Hughes (Pro-Vision, Inc.), wide receiver Chris Moore (USO), defensive end Derek Rivers (Mission of Yahweh), long snapper Jon Weeks (Child Advocates), general manager Nick Caserio (Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star), coach Lovie Smith (Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston) and team president Greg Grissom (Houston ISD).

This is emotionally significant for Howard to be able to provide tickets, food vouchers and parking passes to children from the YMCA.

“I want to give those kids something to look forward to, give them some momentum to work hard, give them goals to look up to, someone to look up to,” Howard said. “It’s really good I’ll be able to do that. I feel good about doing it and I’m just grateful to be in the position I’m in to give back to those kids.”
