HOUSTON – Olympic gymnast and Spring’s own Simone Biles was honored Tuesday during a ceremony at Houston City Hall.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner proclaimed Tuesday as Simone Biles Day and presented her with a key to the city during a ceremony at Houston City Hall.
"Simone, I just want you to know that we are honored to have you here today," Turner said. "You are simply amazing, and what you have done this year and in previous years is just fantastic."
Biles said she was grateful for the opportunity to represent Houston.
"This is a huge thing to have," Biles said after being presented a key to the city. "To be a Houstonian -- I take a lot of pride in that. So, I'm very excited to be here."
"Simone could not be where she's at with the support of everyone and especially the support of Houston," Biles' mother, Nellie.
Biles is the most decorated American gymnast and the third most decorated female gymnast in history. In just seven years, Biles has netted 20 gold medals, three silver and four bronze.
