Woman, man killed in apparent murder-suicide at The Woodlands home ID'd, deputies say

HOUSTON – A couple was killed in an apparent murder-suicide at a home in The Woodlands, Harris County deputies said. 

The discovery was made around 3 p.m. at 42 W. Lasting Spring Circle. 

Lt. Robert Minchew said when Cory Muhlenkort, 35, did not show up to work Friday morning, his employer became concerned and called the Harris County Precinct. 4 Constable's Office for a welfare check. 

Minchew said when authorities arrived at the home, they found Cory and his 34-year-old wife Brooke Muhlenkort dead inside. Investigators said they don’t believe anyone else was inside the home. 

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit was called to the scene, and detectives are working to figure out exactly how the couple died and a possible motive. 

The Sheriff’s Office said based on what they found inside the home, they believe the couple had at least one child.

A neighbor said the couple’s child, who lives in The Woodlands home, attends a local middle school. 

Deputies are investigating the scene and ask residents to avoid the area if possible.
