Woman, child forced off Spirit flight from Houston to New York

Woman traveling with her 2-year-old, elderly patients at time

HOUSTON – A woman said she and her family were wrongfully forced off a Spirit Airlines flight from Houston to New York.

She said she was traveling with her 2-year-old and her elderly parents who are in poor health when it happened.

The flight was delayed, and she said her son was hungry, so she unbuckled her child and began breastfeeding since the plane was still boarding.

She said that's when flight attendants showed up and told her to buckle her son back into his seat. She asked for a few more minutes to feed her son so that he wouldn't be fussy during the flight.

The woman said she eventually buckled her son back into his seat, but then flight attendants called the captain and she was then told she had to get off that flight.

"I asked her, 'My child is already buckled in his seat. What do you want me to do? At this point, I'm complying with what you're asking me to do,'" she said.

KPRC 2 reached out to Spirit Airlines, which issued the following statement:

"To protect the safety of our guests and crew, FAA regulations and airline policies require all passengers to stay seated and buckled during takeoff and landing. We apologize for any inconvenience to our guests. As a courtesy, we issued a full refund to the passenger in question."
