Woman brings photo of deceased father to 'see' Astros victory parade

HOUSTON – In a crowd of some half million Houstonians downtown Friday was a woman from New Orleans in tears.

As the Astros bus passed by Jennifer Vorhoff’s section of the parade, screaming fans held out their hands and phones. She held up a picture and sobbed.

“This is my dad,” Vorhoff said, holding a picture of her dad, Conrad. “He is a lifelong Astros fan.”

Conrad Vorhoff grew up in Louisiana and loved everything baseball. The Astros were the closest major league team, and he loved them, too.

“We moved to Houston for five years,” Vorhoff said. “He took us to every home game.”

After they moved back to New Orleans for another job, the Vorhoffs returned to Houston every year to watch a baseball game and go to Astroworld.

“(He was) the ultimate superfan,” Vorhoff said, getting emotional. “I’ve never cried so much during baseball and I don’t even like baseball.”

Conrad recently lost his battle with prostate cancer. When Jennifer learned Houston would celebrate the Astros World Series title with a parade, she grabbed Conrad’s picture and drove six hours from New Orleans.

“I just had to come for him. He just had to be here,” she said, crying. “And he was here. And people saw him. And they waved at him.”

“We got him to this parade,” she said through tears. “And I think he had a good time.”
