PEARLAND, Texas – One person was killed after a speeding driver slammed into the back of a vehicle, causing a three-vehicle pileup at a busy Pearland intersection.
Department of Public Safety officials said the man who lost his life in that accident was 26-year-old Collin Davis. He was wearing a security guard uniform and may have been coming home from work.
Investigators said the accident happened at about 1 a.m. Davis was in his vehicle, behind a minivan, as the light turned green. The two vehicles had moved into the intersection of FM 521 at FM 2234 when a third vehicle came speeding up and hit Davis' car, which then hit the minivan in front of it. The affected cars became lodged together and flipped into an embankment.
Davis died at the scene. The driver of the minivan was not hurt.
According to authorities, the driver of the speeding car is a 43-year-old man from Pearland. He was taken to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Department of Public Safety troopers said the speeding driver was tested and no alcohol was found in his blood.
Ali Khan, the manager of the Exxon gas at that intersection, said these kinds of accidents are all too familiar to him.
“It's not the first time,” Khan said. “If you look at the records for DPS for the whole year you can find five or six accidents every month. All of it's bad.”
