Police: Say goodbye to Whataburger crime scene markers

Orange and white Whataburger 'tents' used at crime scene raise concerns

HOUSTON – A few months ago at a crime scene, it was noted that Houston police used Whataburger's numbered markers to help document a crime scene.

KPRC cameras captured the markers being used at a shooting scene on March 19.

Now, they're making sure those "tents" as they were called, will never be used again.

Concerns were raised over a possible sponsorship the fast-food chain may have had with HPD. According to police, that was never the case.

A police spokesperson told KPRC2 previously that oftentimes, officers on the scene mark evidence with whatever they have at the time, Whataburger numbers included.

Only once crime scene forensic crews arrive do the traditional evidence markers come out.
