Organ donor who died after being struck by a car honored at hospital

TEMPLE, Texas – Matthew Gene Spahn, 21, of Brenham, was struck by a car as a pedestrian earlier this month.

He hung on for nearly two weeks, until he died on Oct. 17.

Spahn was an organ donor, and his brother Jonah Spahn said Matthew's death meant seven lives were saved. The brother said doctors claim that Matthew will end up helping hundreds more patients.

At Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, the hospital staff honored Matthew in the halls, as the gurney carrying his body rolled by. The walk of respect was captured in an emotional video.

In honor of Matthew Spahn, a 5K run is taking place Sunday at Brenham High School, where he graduated and ran on the track and cross country team.
