Memorial City Mall attack suspect has bond raised to $200K

HOUSTON – A man accused of a violent attack on a woman in a bathroom at Memorial City Mall had his bond raised by a judge Tuesday morning.

Maurice Mosley, 27, is charged with aggravated assault in the case.

Houston police said a female employee of the mall was washing her hands Feb. 25 in a mall bathroom when a man wrapped a trash bag around her neck and began to choke her. She fell to the floor and the man climbed on top of her and continued choking her, police said.

The man later kicked the 31-year-old woman in the face and h ead before she passed out, police said.

The man then boarded a METRO bus southbound on Gessner.

According to court documents, investigators used surveillance video of the attack to identify Mosley as the suspect.

The victim lost several teeth in the attack.

A judge Tuesday morning raised Mosley's bail to $200,000 because prosecutor said it was a "stranger on stranger crime in a public place."

If he is released on bond, the judge ordered Mosley to wear a GPS ankle monitor while under house arrest.

If convicted, aggravated assault has a punishment of two to 20 years in prison, and up to a $10,000 fine.
