HOUSTON - Eight masked men are on the run Tuesday after taking off with an ATM police said they stole from a Galleria Marriott.

According to Houston police, the men ran into the lobby of the hotel in the 1700 block of the West Loop just before 2:30 a.m. The men threatened an unarmed security guard and a maintenance employee, and told workers if they wanted to go home they'd mind their business, police said. The men picked up ATM, which was not bolted down, and walked out of the hotel.

Police said the men put the machine in the back of a Chevy Impala and got away in that and two other vehicles -- another Chevy Impala and a Dodge Magnum .

Police said there were no customers in the lobby at the time of the theft.

No one was injured.

Police are reviewing surveillance video for clues. They said they've never seen a theft of this kind in a luxury hotel.

The Marriott West Loop issued a statement to KPRC2 that read, "As you know earlier this morning an ATM machine was stolen from the hotel lobby. No guests or employees were injured during the incident. As soon as we were alerted to the situation we immediately contacted the authorities, who responded right away. The police are currently investigating the situation and we are assisting as much as we can. As this is an ongoing investigation it would be inappropriate to provide further comment."

Anyone with information about the identities of the men or the theft is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
