HOUSTON – The new school year is rapidly approaching and with its arrival, so is the reality of lunches for children.
Some families may qualify for free or reduced cost meals for their children at Houston ISD schools, but there is a process to determine and apply for it.

Application
Families will need to fill out the HISD School Nutrition Meal Application. To do this, you must access your SchoolCafé account. The district encourages all families to complete an application, even if they are unsure whether they qualify.
Families at schools not participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program will need to complete a Free/Reduced-Price Meal Application to determine eligibility for free or reduced-price lunch meals.
The following schools are not participating in the CEP program this year:

- Mandarin Immersion Magnet School

- Roberts Elementary School
- Sinclair Elementary School
- Travis Elementary School
- Twain Elementary School
- West University Elementary School
- Wharton Elementary School
- Hogg Middle School
- Lanier Middle School
- Pin Oak Middle School
- TH Rogers Middle School
- Bellaire High School
- Carnegie Vanguard High School
- Challenge High School
- DeBakey High School for Health Professions
- Energy Institute High School
- Heights High School
- Houston Academy for International Studies
- Kinder HSPVA
- Lamar High School
- Waltrip High School
- Westside High School
Students attending these schools must have an approved Meal Benefits Application on file to determine eligibility for free or reduced-price lunch benefits.
The district says breakfast is free for all HISD students, regardless of meal eligibility.
