1 dead after vehicle catches fire on Beltway 8 at Westpark Tollway

One person is dead after a vehicle caught fire Tuesday morning on the southbound lanes of Beltway 8 near the Westpark Tollway, according to authorities.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. on the southbound Sam Houston Tollway at the Westpark Tollway interchange.

Officials said the vehicle caught on fire, resulting in a fatality.

Due to the severity of the fire, investigators were initially unable to determine the vehicle’s make or model because it was burned beyond recognition.

All southbound main lanes of Beltway 8 are shut down as investigators work the scene. Drivers are urged to avoid the area and expect significant delays.

Authorities have not released the identity of the person who died or said what may have caused the vehicle to catch fire.
