Fatal single-vehicle crash on Ella shuts down road for hours in northwest Houston

Crash investigation ongoing as authorities probe cause

HOUSTON – A late-night crash in northwest Houston left one person dead and another fighting for their life early Wednesday after a truck slammed into a tree on Ella Boulevard.

The crash happened around 12:16 a.m. on July 9, 2026, at the intersection of Ella Boulevard and Pinemont Drive.

According to Houston Police Department, a blue Ford F-150 was traveling northbound on Ella toward Pinemont when the driver lost control of the vehicle. Investigators believe the truck was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash.

The truck struck a tree with significant force.

A 30-year-old female passenger inside the truck was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 30-year-old male, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division is handling the investigation. There were no witnesses to the crash beyond the person who called 911, according to authorities.

Records show the driver had a prior criminal history, as well as a history of traffic and driving violations.

Ella Boulevard was shut down for approximately two hours following the incident.

No additional information regarding the identities of those involved has been released at this time.
