Red, White and Woof: A Fourth of July celebration at Texas Children’s Hospital

Crafts, games, photo-booth fun, and a visit from facility dog Melman made the day feel extra special

HOUSTON – Texas Children’s Hospital brought the Fourth of July spirit in full color with a celebration that mixed creativity, family fun, and a few picture-perfect moments. Patients and their loved ones jumped into the holiday with plenty of festive touches—think flags, playful props, and lots of red, white, and blue.

Throughout the day, families made patriotic crafts, played games, and stopped by a photo booth to capture the fun. The activities turned into an easy way for everyone—patients, relatives, and staff—to share a little time together and keep the holiday feeling bright.

One of the biggest highlights was a special appearance by Texas Children’s facility dog, Melman. Sporting a holiday-themed bandana, he made his rounds spreading smiles and adding an extra dose of comfort to the celebration.

By the end of the party, the takeaway was simple: a joyful Fourth of July filled with small moments that felt big.
