Sports car driver killed, several injured, including 2 children, in I-45 crash involving heavy truck

GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas – A person was killed and two children were injured in a multi-vehicle crash involving a heavy truck on I-45 Friday morning, according to officials.

The crash happened just before 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Broadway Street and Interstate 45 South. The southbound lanes of I-45 were partially closed as crews investigated the scene.

Galveston Assistant Police Chief Andre Mitchell said the crash involved a sports car, an SUV and a heavy truck.

Mitchell confirmed the driver of the sports car was pronounced dead at the scene. Several others, including two children, were injured and taken to a local hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known.

Officials said failure to control speed may have been a factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
