HITCHCOCK, Texas – Residents in the city of Hitchcock were left without water for several hours Thursday due to a temporary water service interruption.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the City of Hitchcock Public Works Department said the water main located along Highway 6, in front of Good Ole Days Park, was temporarily shut down for scheduled maintenance.

City officials later said a construction crew struck an 8-inch water main, causing the outage. Parts of the city were left without water, while other areas experienced low water pressure.

Officials said they are continuing to monitor the situation and that a boil water notice has not been issued.

Some residents expressed frustration, saying they were unaware of the water interruption. The city posted a public notice on Facebook around noon, but it is unclear whether residents were notified by email or through another alert system.

One resident told KPRC 2 that he went to City Hall to ask when water service would be restored but was surprised to find the building closed during normal business hours. It is unclear why City Hall was closed.

KPRC 2 has reached out to city officials for additional information and is working to learn when water service is expected to be fully restored.
