Tennis legend Serena Williams is set to make a return to Wimbledon this summer after receiving a wildcard entry into the 2026 singles draw.
The 44-year-old will compete at the All England Club for the first time in nearly four years. Tournament organizers announced Williams received a wildcard into the singles competition.
Williams, a seven-time Wimbledon singles champion, has said she’s returning to the grass courts for the love of the sport, not because she has anything left to prove.
The match is airing on ESPN. You can also stream the match on Fubo or the ESPN app.
Serena will take Centre Court at 1:30 p.m. ET.
Last week, tournament officials also announced that Serena and her sister, Venus Williams, plan to compete together in the doubles tournament, marking another highly anticipated reunion for one of tennis’ most successful sibling duos.
During an interview with KPRC 2, former tennis professional and longtime friend of Williams, Zina Garrison, said she believes Serena’s return is about more than chasing another title.
“The last time we saw her play at Wimbledon, she fell with an injury,” Garrison said. “Knowing Serena, that’s in the back of her mind. She doesn’t want that to be the last time somebody sees her like that.”
Williams was forced to retire from her first-round match at Wimbledon in 2021 after slipping on the grass and injuring her leg.
Garrison has known Serena since she was a young player and played an instrumental role in her early development. She was also asked to coach Serena during the 2004 season, helping guide one of the greatest careers in tennis history.
A legendary career
Williams is widely considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time.
Her accomplishments include:
- 23 Grand Slam singles titles, the most of any player in the Open Era.
- Seven Wimbledon singles championships.
- Four Olympic gold medals.
- More than 70 WTA singles titles.
- Over 300 weeks ranked No. 1 in the world.
Now, fans will once again have the opportunity to watch the tennis icon compete on one of the sport’s biggest stages as she returns to Wimbledon nearly four years after her last appearance.
