HOUSTON – Houston’s food scene is no stranger to cultural mashups, and with Mexico topping South Korea 1-0 at the FIFA World Cup 2026, one local restaurant proved the two cultures belong together — at least on the plate.
The excitement wasn’t just limited to the pitch. @iShowSpeed — the social media phenomenon boasting more than 50 million YouTube subscribers and nearly 100 million combined followers on TikTok and Instagram — took the FIFA Fan Fest stage in Houston on Thursday evening, signing a soccer ball and launching it into the crowd ahead of the Mexico-South Korea match at Estadio Guadalajara.
Just steps away from the FIFA Fan Festival, OhMyGogi operates a food truck at EaDo Market, 2012 Dallas Street. @iShowSpeed stopped for tacos at OhMyGogi, with fans surrounding him in the small parking lot.
OhMyGogi was also a must stop for other fans after the match for that Korean-Mexican bite.
The restaurant also operates a brick-and-mortar location 5901 Westheimer Road, Suite G, in Houston. All day Thursday, people in Houston were placing last-minute orders there before the 8 p.m. kickoff.
At OhMyGogi, Korean and Mexican flavors come together in their dishes.
“It has our (Korean) beef, which we made our own bulgogi marinade,” said Jervis Dulay, OhMyGogi’s general manager. “It’s topped off with our house-made spicy mayo, some kimchi, caramelized onions, and cilantro with chili flakes on top and a fried egg.”
Dulay says the menu is more than just food — it’s a meeting of two cultures.
For Team Mexico fan Jalie Morales, the pairing of Korean and Mexican flavors made perfect sense.
“Food blends well, the people blend well together,” Morales said.
The reaction from fans on the South Korean side was equally enthusiastic. Dale Flores, and his friend, didn’t hesitate when asked about Korean-Mexican food.
“Bro, I’ve done that before — it’s gas,” Flores said.
Another Team South Korea fan said the fusion was new territory worth exploring.
“I haven’t tried it before, but I want to try,” the fan said.
For Dulay, the timing of the World Cup matchup felt like more than a coincidence — and he soaked in every moment of it.
“Excited! Just because, you know, it’s not like FIFA comes every year,” Dulay said.
