Soccer fans are expected to gather at FIFA Fan Fest Houston on Wednesday as Portugal takes on the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but organizers say they are closely monitoring the weather amid flood warnings and ongoing rain chances across the area.

Fan Fest officials said they are following a day-to-day weather operations plan due to the latest flood concerns and the potential for additional storms.

Organizers are also working closely with the City of Houston’s Office of Emergency Management and public safety partners to ensure visitors receive timely information about changing weather conditions.

β€œWe are monitoring, we are making the fans on site aware if we see weather in the area, with notifications on the boards as well as notifications over the microphones,” said Holly de Beer, co-director of FIFA Fan Fest Houston. β€œIf we see that pattern moving closer, we actually are evacuating. Safety is our main concern.”

De Beer said the goal is to provide both local residents and visitors with accurate and updated information throughout the event, whether they are attending activities inside Fan Fest or traveling around the city.

Fan Fest officials have already adjusted operations this week due to inclement weather threats and say weather conditions will continue to be evaluated daily.

The match between Portugal and the Democratic Republic of the Congo is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. at Houston Stadium in NRG Park.

Fans planning to attend Fan Fest are encouraged to monitor weather forecasts, follow event announcements and be prepared for potential schedule changes if severe weather develops.
