HOUSTON – A woman is dead and a man has been detained following a shooting at an apartment complex in northeast Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
Early Monday evening, officers responded to a shooting scene in the 5100 block of Lavender Street, where an adult female victim was found suffering from gunshot wounds.

She was transported to a hospital, where she later died.
An adult male was detained at the scene and is believed to be the shooter, police said. Investigators said the detained man told officers that the woman assaulted him before the shooting occurred.
According to HPD Lt. Larry Crowson, the victim and the detained man were neighbors who had reportedly been involved in an ongoing dispute prior to the shooting.
Authorities have not released details about the alleged assault, and detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the deadly encounter.
Police have not announced whether charges have been filed. The identities of those involved have not yet been released pending notification of family members and further investigation.
