The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said Blount was targeted.

On Friday, detectives announced that Blount’s son, 38-year-old Justin Blount, had been charged in connection with his father’s death.

Justin Blount was initially arrested on the day of the shooting after investigators learned he had used his father’s credit cards without authorization.

During the ongoing investigation, detectives uncovered evidence indicating that Justin Blount not only used his father’s financial resources without permission, but was also responsible for his death.

Officials said Justin Blount was the person who initially called 911 and reported finding his father dead.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit was assisted by crime scene investigators, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office, and Harris County Sheriff’s Office K-9 teams.

Who was James Blount to his community?

KPRC 2 News reporter Corley Peel spoke with Blount’s friend, Linda Young, about the man the community has lost.

Blount was a devoted horseman and a respected figure in the trail-riding community. Young said she met him in the 1990s when they both worked as mounted patrol and livestock officers for the Precinct 2 Constable’s Office.

“This is truly a remarkable man that we lost,” Young said.

She described Blount as a generous and kind person whose death has deeply shaken those who knew him.

“Jim was one of the nicest people you would ever meet. He would give you the shirt off his back. To have this kind of insanity done to him is just shocking,” Young said.
