THE WOODLANDS, Texas – An investigation is underway after a shooting led to the death of a 16-year-old boy inside a home in The Woodlands Thursday morning, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened during the early morning hours inside a residence on Redberry Court.

Deputies responded to a 911 call and found the teen at about 4:04 a.m. suffering from a gunshot wound. They immediately began lifesaving measures. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other teens, ages 17 and 19, who are a friend and a sibling of the 16-year-old, were also inside the residence at the time of the shooting.

Investigators believe the shooting appears to be accidental, and there is no threat to the public. The case will be referred to the District Attorney’s Office for review and determination of any potential charges.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene, along with representatives from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and the Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s Office, to conduct the investigation.

At this time, the victim’s identity is not being released pending notification of additional family members.
