FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – Voting in Fort Bend County has been paused across multiple locations after a system bug caused all voting centers in the county to shut down Tuesday afternoon.

Fort Bend County Elections Administrator Chase Wilson tells KPRC 2’s Rilwan Balogun a bad file caused the impacted systems to go down countywide.

The bug was reportedly identified after a software update.

A short time later, a Fort Bend County source confirmed to 2 Investigates that the issue was within the voter check-in system, not the polling systems themselves.

County officials confirmed they are working to extend voting periods at impacted locations in the area.

The county is reaching out to the system vendor, but it is unclear when the system will come back online.

Wilson says the bug has not sacrificed the integrity of the vote, but for the time being, all voting centers in the county are affected.

Residents speak out on situation

Multiple residents across Fort Bend County have contacted KPRC 2, claiming to be having issues at their locations.

A resident at a polling place in Sienna said he was told the system was down was offered a provisional ballot a short time later. He said he was able to fill out the provisional ballot without further complications.

Another resident at Fort Bend County Library reported that voters were told the location did not have access to provisional ballots.
