HOUSTON – Ganado ISD announced it will close schools on Friday, May 15, following a significant increase in illness-related student absences at Ganado Elementary.

According to the district, more than 90 elementary students have either missed school or been sent home sick since Thursday. School officials said the closure is being implemented out of concern for student and staff health.

District leaders noted that the school calendar is designed with emergency closure days in mind to help accommodate situations such as widespread illness outbreaks.

During Friday’s closure, classrooms and campus facilities will undergo thorough sanitization and cleaning. Ganado ISD plans to resume normal operations on Monday, May 18.

The district also apologized to parents for the short notice and encouraged families to stay safe and healthy.
