HOUSTON – Houston police responded to assist Houston ISD police with what they are calling a weapons disturbance outside Heights High School.

According to an HPD source, two groups were in a fight outside the school when one of the members of the group allegedly flashed a gun at the other group. That student and one of the groups then got into a car and drove away.
The source says HISD PD pursued the car, which crashed out. The people inside the car took off after the crash and got away, but police know who was involved and are trying to find them.

The HPD source says one student was detained.
A message sent to parents stated the school was placed on secure mode as a precaution and that students and staff are safe.
Houston ISD released the following statement:
Heights HS was briefly placed in secure mode due to police activity in the area. The secure has been lifted, and dismissal is underway.
