Sources say the victim, described as a carpenter in his mid-to-late 40s, had been working on renovations at the home.

Family members told investigators the last time they heard from him was around 1 p.m. Friday.

After becoming concerned when he stopped answering calls, his sisters went to his home and noticed his vehicle was still there. They later went to the house he had been working on, where they discovered his body and called 911.

Precinct 4 deputies arrived at the scene and said the man appeared to have been dead for some time.

Investigators also noted trauma to his body, leading them to believe the death was not natural or accidental. Detectives learned the carpenter occasionally hired laborers to assist with jobs.

Family members also reported that the victim’s truck was missing, prompting authorities to enter it as stolen. They told investigators the carpenter was known for not allowing others to drive his truck.

Later that same day, the vehicle was located and stopped in Pasadena. Four people — two adults and two juveniles — were inside.

Authorities said a woman and the two juveniles were released, while a man who was reportedly known to have worked with the victim remains detained for questioning.

At this time, no arrests or charges have been filed. Investigators have not released a possible motive, and the case remains under active investigation.
