HOUSTON – Houston voters will return to the polls for a runoff election to fill the vacant City Council District C seat after no candidate earned a majority in Saturday’s seven-person special election.
Unofficial results show Joe Panzarella and Nick Hellyar leading the field with a combined total of more than 50% of the vote. Because no single candidate received more than 50%, the race will be decided in a runoff.
The winner will serve out the remainder of former Council Member Abbie Kamin’s term, which runs through the beginning of 2028. Kamin left the District C seat to run for Harris County Attorney.
