HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday morning in southwest Houston.
According to Houston Police Department, the incident happened at the 6300 block of West Bellfort Avenue.

Police said employees at the Bennington Square Apartments complex called 911 at 11:18 a.m., reporting that a 49-year-old man was making “jabbing” motions in the parking lot with a butcher knife.
An ambulance was already on scene when officers arrived.
Officers were directed to an upstairs apartment unit where the suspect was last seen.
Police said several people were exiting the apartment, but as officers approached, the suspect “came out in an aggressive manner” with the butcher knife towards the officers.
Officers fired their weapons at the armed man. He was pronounced deceased on scene. No one else, including the officers, were reported as injured.

The three officers involved in the shooting were placed on a three-day administrative leave, as is customary with the Houston Police Department.
Three separate investigations will be conducted by the HPD Special Investigative Unit, the HPD Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
Bodyworn camera footage will be released within 30 days of the incident, police said.
“Our hearts go out to everybody that’s involved in this tragic incident,” an HPD spokesperson said.
