Multiple agencies respond after gunfire erupts at Dickinson birthday celebration

The venue had recently reopened and was rented out for the first time in roughly a decade, investigators said

DICKINSON, Texas – A late-night birthday party in Dickinson ended in gunfire, sending several people to the hospital.

Investigators said the shooting happened around midnight during an adult birthday celebration near JT’s Lounge along Avenue F.

Officers said the venue had recently reopened and was being rented out for the first time in about 10 years.

According to investigators, an argument and assault started inside the venue before spilling outside. That’s when multiple people began shooting. Authorities said five to seven people were hit and were taken to two hospitals; all are expected to be in stable condition.

No deaths have been reported.

The area remains blocked off as Galveston County investigators process what they described as a large crime scene. Multiple agencies responded, and a stretch of Avenue F is shut down while crews collect evidence and work to determine what led up to the gunfire.

No one has been detained, and investigators are still working to identify who was involved and what sparked the initial dispute.
