Teenage boy rushed to hospital after being shot during exchange of gunfire in southeast Houston

A teenage boy is in serious condition after a shooting that investigators say stemmed from an altercation in southeast Houston Thursday afternoon.

According to Lt. Crowson with the Houston Police Department, officers were called around 1:30 p.m. to Fire Station 46, located in the 3900 block of Corder Street, after a black SUV arrived with a teenage boy suffering from a gunshot wound.

After first reporting that the victim was an adult, Lt. Crowson later confirmed he was a 17-year-old.

The teen was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was undergoing surgery. Authorities say he is in serious condition.

Investigators spoke with three other people who were inside the SUV.

They told police they had been involved in an altercation with another male near Cullen Boulevard and Tatum Street. During the confrontation, gunfire was exchanged, and the victim was struck.

Police say between 10 and 15 shell casings were found at the scene of the shooting, indicating a significant exchange of gunfire.

At this time, no suspect information has been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
